I have personally known Carl Kosola for nine years through his accomplishments as an award-winning, still-photo staff photojournalist for one of Philadelphia's top daily newspapers. The hardest job in the photography industry is that job, showing up for work, not knowing what your day or night will be like requires the ultimate in professionalism. There are no do-overs, no excuses acceptable for not getting the job done, the next day's publication requires only the best photojournalists. If you don't get the job done you are gone and Carl has been here for nine years since graduating from college. He gets the job done no matter what the assignment -- including breaking news, sports action, general news coverage or environment candid portraits. When a photographer excels in every situation presented, you can be assured he will create portraits that are produced with the latest technical knowledge -- lighting, exposure, detail -- that captures the subject's soul and personality. Carl holds a degree in journalism from Penn State University but his most valuable attributes are his dedication to journalism ethics, thoughtfulness, compassion, respect for the subject and again, getting the job done and done well. He is a young man who will only get better with time and is well deserving of this nomination, adding to his professional accolades. He also is a small business owner and dedicated employee of the area's best source for professional photographers -- New York Camera of Southampton. Well done Carl!
